The first issue. Blank leaves faintly foxed. One of the landmarks in 20th century book illustration. Copies of this first edition sold out within a week of publication. Despite its enormous public success (by the end of the first year sales had reached 200,000) some found the book dangerously heretical; it was banned from public libraries in Cambridge.
