Before there was a Super Mario there was this Mario, an orphan who goes off to live in the forest with the animals. First published in Germany in 1928, and here translated from the German by Whittaker Chambers, this book followed Bonsels' better known work, "The Adventures of Maya the Bee" (English edition also published by Boni, 1929, and illustrated by Vera Bock). "Mario" is illustrated with nine full page drawings by Kurt Wiese. This is a pretty decent copy of the first edition (it is NOT the Junior Literary Guild edition). There is a little wear to the spine ends, some marks to the front board including a small ring stain, and some browning to edges and endpapers. Front and rear pastedowns have very small labels from previous owners. A very good copy. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 002426
