Illustrated by David Walsh. The story of a boy living in the shadow Windsor Castle who discovers its history for himself - by taking part in it. Sometimes with his friend Manfred, sometimes alone, he travels back through time to the days when the first wooden stockade was built at Windsor at William the Conqueror's command, and through the centuries he sees the castle grow as sovereign after sovereign adds to its greatness. Amy Violet Needham was the author of 19 popular novels for children, a number of which, during the 1940s, were made widely available to the British public by BBC's The Childrens' Hour radio programme.
