A very nice copy (VG+/VG) of the exceedingly rare first English translation complete with a very good dust jacket. Burckhardt was a Swiss polymath who wrote on a wide range of topics including esotericism, cosmology, metaphysics, and sacred art. And in 1960 he published the first edition (in German) of Alchemy: Science of the Cosmos, Science of the Soul, his view of Alchemy being a transformation whereby a human's leaden, dull nature is returned to its golden state. This is the first English translation (1967) and is remarkably rare. The pages are lovely: clean and bright with no notes or highlighting; no tanning or foxing on pages; some tanning only on both FEPs; front pastedown has a previous owner bookplate (see photos). Cloth boards are very good and spine and binding are completely tight. DJ is -unusually- present, and is very nice: original bright colours of the front are retained beautifully; spine has a little sun fade; some tanning to top portion of DJ; mild general wear but no real tears or splits at all; clipped. Many very nice illustrations. A really nice copy of a very rare edition, at time of writing this seems to be the only copy of this edition for sale on any of the major book sites.
