folio atlas ca. 14.5"x 17.5". of State of Illinois, 1876, Front cover detached and there is no title page that will give the publication information, pp. 292- but lacking leaf of pages 1-2, Front cover is present and detached, and with moderately heavy wear, backstrip poor to fair- There is corner missing from the first page after the missing title page- this page being a b& w plate of the State Capitol building- - plate is soiled but otherwise good, but about 2" piece at corner is lacking. Contents are age toned, but generally very good otherwise with good color on maps. There Is red ink stamp on front free endpaper indicating the atlas belonged to an Insurance company at one time, Inside in index page is a label saying "basement atlas 37". A couple of maps have blue or red pencil writing saying things like "excluded", and "rejected", "projected", "rejected". These don't detract too much from the maps and are, probably, worthy of futher study to understand their meaning. All maps and plans are present- along with lots lof b&w illustrations of buildings, homes, farms, etc. A very nicely done atlas with some history of its own that may be worth investigating. Lettering in front cover in good condition, but dull, corners bumped, contents complete except for title page. Maps in good- with good color, but age toned and with extra markings on a few as mentioned. . Complete and NOT x- lending -library and not a newer reproduction.
