True first British printing (second state - top edge of pages not gilt). No jacket as issued. 465 pages plus six page publisher's catalogue to rear. Red boards with gold lettering to spine and front are good with few marks, patchy fading/browning (including to spine), a few bumps to edges, a little patchy rubbing to edges, one patch of crinkling/lifting to top (red cloth) surface to back, numerous patches of fading and a little wear (pushing/rubbing/fading/slight fraying to the cloth) to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Rough cut page edges and bottoms. Pages bit tanned. Odd small marks/mild foxing to page edges, tops and bottoms. Occasional small marks/scattered foxing to pages. Patches of wear/loss to paper inside back board. End-papers tanned with a few marks/minor foxing. No other faults.
