First edition, first impression, in the scarce dustwrapper - an excellent example of a fragile book. Orwell's socio-political classic, in which his stated purpose was 'to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole'. Near Fine+: firm and square binding in sharp and clean green cloth; tiny mark to the lower board and a narrow strip of fading to the extreme spine tips; bright white lettering to the spine; original owner's signature and three-word inscription to the ffep, dated 20 August 1945, else bright, crisp and clean throughout. The clipped dustwrapper is Very Good: original and unrestored; vibrant, unfaded colours; small chips to the spine tips, corners and bottom-edge of the front panel; rubbed to the folds; some dustiness and localised browning to the rear panel; produced to wartime production standards, a Searchlight Books train design (in red) is present to the verso, as called for; presented in a removable, archival-quality protective cover.
