A detailed, illustrated account of activities the Union Army of Cumberland under Gen. William Rosecrans thru early 1863, including the battle at Stone River. Includes steel engraving and woodcut illustrations. Also includes two-page color lithograph map of the Stone River site. A previous owner of this copy was Gen. Benjamin Fisher, a top Signal Corps officer and lead officer of the Army Signal Corps at the end of the Civil War. He wrote his name on a front endpaper. Blue cloth with gilt titles and decorations, 671 pages. This copy has edgewear on the covers and spine, fading of the blue dye on the spine although the gilt remains in the titles and decorations.
