A late nineteenth century edition of the Smithsonian Report, an important documentation of the proceedings of this esteemed institution. Profusely illustrated with images of important artefacts held at the U.S National Museum. Comprising of a report of the U.S national Museum under the direction of the Smithsonian Institution. Profusely illustrated with many plates of the recent acquisitions at the U.S national museum, some folding. An ex-library copy with stamps only to the endpapers. This particular issue of the Smithsonian Report is split into five sections, the first being the report of the Assistant Secretary in charge of the National Museum who discusses the history of the museum, its organisation, staff and current projects. The second section is the report of the curators. These discuss the various areas of research the museum displays such as ethnology, mammals, birds, fishes, insects, fossil plants and more. The third section comprises of papers describing and illustrating the collections in the U.S National Museum. The fourth section is a bibliography of the U.s National Museum During the fiscal year ending June 30 1888. The fifth section is a list of accessions to the U.s National Museum during the fiscal year 1887-88. In a full cloth binding. Externally, rubbed to the joint sand to the extremities. Loss to the head of spine due to rubbing. Split to the head of front joint resulting in the hinge being strained but firm .Spine has faded. Light patches of rubbing to the boards. Rear hinge is strained but firm. Library docket to the rear pastedown with a card for the 'Museum Library' and for Bradshaw H Swales Memorial Library. Library stamps to the front pastedown and recto of front endpaper. Internally, binding is strained in places. Pages are generally bright with slight age toning to the page edges.
