Likely a first edition--the ad at the back of the book says that the next book in the series will be "An Army Boy in Manila". This first format book (bluish-gray binding, applique), is in VG- condition. The exterior is reasonably clean with mild bumps to the 4 corners and to the head and heel of the spine, all without fabric damage. The spine is mildly sunned (see photo). The interior (328 pages) is free of writing, stray marks, water-type stains and page damage; there are some small food-residue type stains on margins, affecting perhaps as many as 12 pages. Hinges are strong and the paper is quite flexible; frontis +6 is intact. Both free end pages have a darker stain, as though a newspaper was kept there for some extended time.
