Beschreibung
Scarce first edition of this illustrated book dedicated to gardening by garden designed Thomas Hayton Mawson. A guide to garden making by well known British garden designer and landscape architect Thomas Hayton Mawson, known for his marrying of horticulture with architecture. A scarce copy of the first edition of this work, rarely seen on the market. Often seen in an unacceptable condition, this copy, though a little worn, is decidedly better than usual.A fascinating guide in the original publisher's cloth binding, with chapters concerning garden making from the choice of a site and its treatment with details of fences and gates, entrances, terrace and flower gardens, &c, as well as useful botanical information on trees, shrubs, roses, aquatic plants, ferns.Illustrated in text with numerous perspective views drawn by Mr. C. E. Mallows and others, as well as plans, sections, and details of gardens and garden ornament; with headings designed by D. Chamberlain. In the original publisher's full cloth binding, renewed endpapers. Externally generally sound with shelf wear, cracking to front joint, back strip laid down, boards holding firm. Bumped to head and tail of spine. Half title loose but present. Internally, binding split to p. 97, with pp. 81-96 held by one cord only. Pages bright and clean. Good.
