Complete in six volumes.Uniformly bound in half morocco with marbled boards.This set contains the life and correspondence of Mary Granville.As well as being an artist and letter-writer, Granville had a lively correspondence, frequently attending the Royal Court and a favourite of King George III and Queen Charlotte. This work provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of Georgian England.Volume I begins with an unfinished autobiography and continues with correspondence from 1717 to 1737. With an introduction and notes by Lady Llanover, Granville's great-great-niece, who edited these works.Granville was also a member of the Blue Stockings Society, an informal women's social and educational movements in the mid 18th century that prioritised education and mutual cooperation.Illustrated with a frontispiece to each volume, as well as two plates to volume I, three to volume II, two to volume III, three to 2nd series volume I, two to 2nd series volume II, and five to 2nd series volume III. With a large folding plate of the Granville family tree to 2nd series volume III. Uniformly bound in half morocco with marbled boards. Externally, very smart. With slight rubbing to the extremities and light bumping to the board corners. Slight fading of the leather to 2nd series volume III. Rear hinges to 2nd series volume I and II are starting but firm.
