(Sabin 97249). John Trumbull (1756-1843) was an American painter known for his depictions of the American Revolution. Trumbull initially served as an aide-de-camp to General George Washington during the early years of the war. Trumbull's talent as a historical painter led him to create a series of famous works related to the American Revolution. Some of his notable paintings include: The Death of General Warren at the Battle of Bunker's Hill, June 17, 1775, and George Washington at Trenton. The work titled The Declaration of Independence, Trumbull's most iconic painting, shows the drafting committee presenting the Declaration of Independence to the Continental Congress.
