Navajivan Publishing House. Ahmedabad. 1948. 640 pages. Text in English. This title was printed in such tiny pressings that the first edition, first printing was only 6,000 copies. The next printing was the second edition; which printed even less than the first; this time 5,000 copies. This copy is the 5th overall printing; or the 2nd edition; 4th printing. The total print run of all five printings combined was only 41,000 copies. This 5th overall printing was published in 1948; the year of Gandhi's assassination. The plum of these early printings is the DJ; as they have nearly all disintegrated and withered away. Tipped-in this copy is a presentation page gifting this copy in Gandhi's memory on behalf of the Gandhi National Memorial Fund; hand-signed by the foundation's Chairman in 1953; the year in which the fund was first established. The fund still exists today to preserve 'the legacy of Gandhi; an apostle of truth and non-violence.' Original DJ with 7 rupees price intact. DJ shows chips, rubs and stains; much of it matching the boards underneath. Binding and hinges are strong and sound. Good/Good.
