First edition, first printing. Original blue cloth with green titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Top edge blue. Illustrated throughout with black and white line drawings by Shirley Hughes. A very good copy, the binding firm with very slight bumping at the extremities, the titles a little rubbed. The contents, with a little offsetting to the free endpapers, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stmaps. Complete with the lightly rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper which has a couple of very short closed tears to the bottom edge of the front panel, repaired to the underside with a single piece of tape. Not price-clipped (10s. 6d. on the front flap). The Bell family first appeared as a radio serial on 'Children's Hour' in 1948.
