Blue cloth boards with titling and illustration in red and gilt on spine, still bright. A touch faded with some sunning to spine and for an inch or so around the boards. Very good indeed. Dj spine has a square section at the foot that is detached (and loosely inserted) owing to closed tears either side and halfway across the spine, as well as a small chip lost from the bottom right corner. Spine is rather browned, as is the frayed top edge. The white panels front and back show browning and marking. Good. Acquired from Maud Lloyd, an admired leading dancer with Ballet Rambert in the 1930s. Later she wrote, with her husband, Nigel Gosling, influential dance books and reviews under the pseudonym, 'Alexander Bland'. When Rudolph Nureyev defected in 1961, they became his surrogate parents.
