Beschreibung
An illustrated first edition of this naval voyage adventure by British author Charles Dudley Lampen. This is a very scarce, first edition of the work, in the original decorative publisher's binding, with a sea motif and fight scene to the front board. Charles Dudley Lampen was a British author who was mostly known for his works of children's fiction, notably his Lost World novels, such as this one. Similar to this work, Lampen's books were bound with a decorative design, with colour and gilt detailing, as would appeal to children. This particular novel is part of Lampen's Lost World series. In Barcali the Mutineer, the characters locate a hidden island, although there are many twists and turns along the way and a challenge of great difficulty of overthrowing Barcali the Mutineer. With three plates, including a frontispiece, illustrated by British artist, illustrator and aviator Harold Piffard, who was known for his historic oil and watercolour paintings. In the original decorative publisher's binding. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The odd mark to boards, with a small amount of damp staining to the rear board. Age toning to endpapers with slight offsetting and spotting. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages clean with age toning. Pages i-viii slightly strained, detaching partly, including the frontispiece. Very Good Indeed. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 873Q21
