The first UK edition, scarce in original export version dustwrapper. A novel from the 1920 Broadway play. Smart shiny red cloth, black lettering to upper cover and spine. Spotting to page edges. Lovely unfaded pictorial dustwrapper with design by Charles Dunant. Minuscule loss at foot of spine (lettering unaffected) & at bottom left corner of rear panel. The creator of Batman, Bob Kane, wrote that this book and its film version (The Bat Whispers, 1930) influenced him greatly in his characterisation of the legendary superhero, who first appeared in 1939.
