Beschreibung
First edition. 8vo., orig. red pictorial cloth, 340pp. With illustrations. A fine copy. "US writer, quite possibly a resident of Cleveland, Ohio, whose "Uncle Sam's" Cabins: A Story of American Life, Looking Forward a Century (1895) didactically solves a number of social and economic problems, and whose best-known novel is the Future-War tale Anglo-Saxons, Onward! A Romance of the Future (1898), in which, led by the US president, Anglo-Saxons dominate the world/ . Some of the "lessons" of this tale are made more explicit in his white supremacist novel, Blood Will Tell: The Strange Story of a Son of Ham (1902), which posits in fantastical terms a blood inferiority of the Sons of Ham." (ency. of SF). In this overtly racist novel,Davenport expounds the theory that "blood has the power to enforce racial identity, that blood carries certain racial markers that work within a self that takes shape." In this novel, the "one drop of negro blood" present in the character of Walter Burton, eventually makes itself known as a kind of vampiric presenence." (Brodie: High Anxieties).
