First printing (no other printings indicated). Inscribed by Margaret Alexander. Burnt orange-color cloth boards with blue lettering. Nicks in cloth on top and bottom edges of boards. A little bit of spotting on the top edge of the text block. A little staining along the gutter on a few leaves. Four plates illustrated from photographs, including frontispiece (two of the plates have a bit of damp staining to their upper fore-corner). 114 pp. 7.5 x 5.5 inches. Appears to be inscribed by Charles Alexander's wife to a close friend of theirs: ''Dear Brownie: / Here's for many / more X-mases / together / Margaret & Charlie / 1926''. This copy was acquired in Albany, Oregon, where the Alexanders lived. The amazing and true story of Bobbie, a collie from Silverton, Oregon, who got lost in Indiana during a family vacation in the summer of 1923. Bobbie managed to find his way back to Oregon in 1924. Charles Alexander's book reconstructs the arduous 2800 mile journey. Following his return, Bobbie appeared in Ripley's Believe It or Not! This remarkable collie passed away in 1927 and at his burial Rin Tin Tin, the German Shepherd Hollywood star, laid a wreath on his grave. Charles Douglas Alexander (1897-1962) was the author of three books and more than 200 stories appeared in national publications such as the Saturday Evening Post and Collier's. In 1922, his short story ''As a Dog Should'' was selected as one of the best of the year by the O. Henry Memorial awards and was included in their annual anthology.
