Beschreibung
Original book sculpture that is cleverly literal, featuring a figure made of found materials with a matchstick "penis" attached to a spring. Bruno Pasquier-Desvignes defies classification. THE NEW YORK TIMES calls him "part tinkerer and part storyteller, a cross between Alexander Calder and Jean Tinguely;" filmmaker James Ivory compares him to Picasso, noting his ability to "pick up any old thing lying around, see its possibilities for transformation and then turn it into a new and enchanting thing" (RURAL INTELLIGENCE). Pasquier-Desvignes's book sculptures highlight his ingenuity, creativity, and humor, as he toys with the idea of a codex as a container. A 1967 copy of THE EXHIBITIONIST by Henry Sutton provides the setting for a figure made of found materials, including a bouncing "penis" made out of a matchstick mounted on a spring. Pasquier-Desvignes managed to make the rather simplistic EXHIBITIONIST amusingly expressive it looks quite thrilled that you have opened the book to have a look at it. A delightful production. 8.25'' x 5.5''. Original cloth-backed boards. Bookblock fused with glue, with rectangular recess cut into center. Figure made of found materials including cork, spray paint nozzle, pipe cleaners, and an unlit match mounted inside recess; mirror to back of recess. Binding with light soil. Leaves and bookblock with mild scattered foxing. Small crack to upper right corner of mirror. Solid. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 45499
