400 pages, 3 items bound as one, 1st. Item, Proceedings of the Council, /Charter of Incorporation. From Oct. 1838 to Nov. 1839 has no publishing date xxl (inc Title page) + 188 pages (does not have pages 169-176, but no signs of being removed, so most likely a printer's mistake and they never used those page numbers). + .2nd. Item. Proceedings of the Council Nov. 1839 to Nov 1840 published date of 1840, v (inc Title page) + 95 pages. + 3Rd item. Proceedings of the Council Nov 1840 to Nov 1841. published date of 1841, v (inc Title page) + 103 pages. Quarter leather binding in very good condition, very minor rubbing. . Contents Good clean & tight, the odd very minor stain, corner tip fold, most pages very clean, but as paper used in the manufacture is of poor quality are extremely fragile. Therefore some pages have edge tears, and/or minor edge loss, not affecting text, except First Title page with edge loss and tears (one just touching text) and partly detached. Has just a few very old "City of Manchester, Corporation Library" stamps. Only noticed one inscription "199" in pencil to 1st title page. Found ref in an 1875 volume of books held held in Lancaster that at Manchester Free Library, they had a copy of the 1st & 2nd parts of my book, but bound separately, but no mention of the 3rd part or of this book, so looks like by 1875 this book had left Manchester Library. Under the Municipal Corporations Act 1835, the municipal borough of Manchester was established in 1838 as a local authority area, and included the townships of Manchester, Beswick, Cheetham, Chorlton-on-Medlock and Hulme, therefore this contains the charter and covers the names of it's 1st officials and meetings to November 1841 (it's first 3 years) so very important tome for Manchester historians. Not sure if this was published for sale to the public or just for the council and it's top officials, as not listed on the British Library. From a quick net check, found no other copy of either item, This looks as if it may be one of the only copies of these three items, and all bound in this one volume. Just noticed, at base of spine is impressed Committee Clerl ie Committee Clerk, so this must have been bound for him. Due to the poor paper used in the manufacture it well may be the only copy in private hands & possibly institutions too. Please do not buy if you do know how to handle a fragile paper/pages, as although this is a very tight copy, and mostly in very good clean condition, with some edge tears, it will tear very easily, and if miss handled will deteriorate very quickly and this is too important a historical book to ruin.
