The first U.K Edition of Washington Irving's Bracebridge Hall. In a beautiful full calf binding with ornate gilt stamping to the boards and spines. The first edition second state, with 404 pages to volume II. Bracebridge Hall was first written in 1821 whilst Irving was living in England. Title page attributes authorship to Geoffrey Crayon, a pseudonym for American novelist Washington Irving. The novel is an inter-twining of individual sketches and tales based on the occupants of an English manor with the same name as the title. Bracebridge Hall is based on Aston Hall near Birmingham, which was occupied by members of the Bracebridge family Irving often visited. In full calf bindings with gilt stamping to the board edges and spines. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear to the extremities. Gift inscription to recto of front endpaper of volume II dated 1859. Prior owner's signature to recto of front endpaper to volume I, H E Howard Maclean, 1859. Internally, firmly bound.
