this is a rare collection of Seventy Four original Brightonian Cartoons, housed in an old folio sized folder The Brightonion was a short lived Brighton Weekly newspaper that was published in the early 1880s, each edition of the paper contained a portrait of a prominent Brighton figure in caricature form the people depicted were not named on the individual prints, just their line of work, though there is a printed list of the first ninety four cartoons identifying each of the subjects, which is pasted to the inside front cover of the folder all but one of the cartoons are individually numbered, some numbered in pencil, most in print, the cartoons present in this collection are as follows the unnumbered one is of The Mayor of Brighton 1884-5 the rest are numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 39, 41, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 52, 54, 55, 56, 57, 59, 60, 61, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 78, 84, 85, 95, 96, 97, 98, 100, 106, the folder the prints are housed in is rubbed with the bottom inner flap missing else in good general condition, the first print which has been in contact with the cover is heavily browned (pictured) a few are marked to the reverse, some edge wear, short tears and light chips, nothing too serious else are generally in good general condition A RARE SURVIVING COLLECTION OF SEVENTY FOUR OF THE BRIGHTONIAN CARTOONS.
