Softcovers. Zustand: Good to Very Good. Reprint. 1967. Paperback reprint (the first UK edition was published in hardback form by Hamish Hamilton in 1954). 157pp. plus 3 pages advertising other works by the author. Georges Joseph Christian Simenon (1903-1989) is best known for his works featuring the fictional detective Jules Maigret, but apart from his detective fiction he also achieved critical acclaim for his literary novels. This book concerns the brothers Eddie, Gino and Tony. They were thugs, born to violence in Brooklyn's underworld. Their outlook was sometimes alike - and sometimes it was very different. In 1957 the book was made into an American crime film noir directed by Phil Karlson and starring Richard Conte, Dianne Foster and Kathryn Grant. The book is bound in paperback form with an illustration on the front cover. It is in good to very good condition with some shelf wear on the covers, rubbing to the corners and spine edges, and wear to the spine corners. The top of the spine is bumped and there is a small crease across the bottom front corner. The contents are secure and clean with age-browning to the pages. There is no inscription. Mass Market PB "Simenon's first book with an American setting, this is a taut, penetrating story of crime and retribution -- the exciting saga of a gangster whose conscience is gagged by a silken web of evil which he himself has helped to spin." Originally published in France under the title "Les Freres Rico," this book was first published in the U.S. by Doubleday as one of three parts of an omnibus volume entitled "Tidal Wave." It also served as the basis for the 1957 film of the same name, directed by Phil Karlson. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 28635
