CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Light wear to edges and corners; spine ends worn and lightly chipped; covers a bit soiled. Interior front hinge is weak, but holding. Front free endpaper has a penciled signature (dated 1885), and inked signature (dated 1917) and an inked rubber stamp (dated 1975) of previous owners. Added pencil notations regarding unit member named Captain William Mumford with a described family connection. Else interior pages are clean. With clear, mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 16th Tennessee Infantry Regiment was organized in June 1861, at Camp Harris, Tennessee, with 952 officers and men. Sent to Virginia, the unit was active in Lee's Cheat Mountain Campaign and later moved to South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, then Kentucky. After fighting at Perryville, it was assigned to M.J. Wright's, Maney's, and Palmer's Brigade, Army of Tennessee. The regiment participated in the campaigns of the army from Murfreesboro to Atlanta, endured Hood's winter operations, and saw action in North Carolina. The unit surrendered on April 26, 1865. Contains sketches of the 5th, 8th, Carnes Battery, Wright's Brigade, 11th, 17th, 33rd, 7th Kentucky and Rust's Brigade besides being about the 16th Tenn Inf (CSA).
