This is a UK first edition hardcover published by John Long in 1949. The jacket is in Near Fine condition and unclipped (9s 6d net). other than a slightly sunned spine, it is nice and bright and has not lost any of its colour. If not for light wear to the extremities, it would be Fine. The book is in Fine condition in blue boards with straight spine, sharp corners and firm spine ends. The copyright page does not confirm the year of publication, as was often the case with early Cassells novels from the 1940s. However the 'books by this author' only lists books written pre-1949 and the title page states the book was published for the Crime Book Society by Andrew Melrose. I charge shipping that reflects my actual costs. I do NOT offer cheap shipping and add it to the book price so please do not complain to me that Bob down the road offers cheaper postage. Sure he does - but the price of his book is hiked to reclaim it, or you're referring to a power seller who can negotiate postage discounts. I can't - I'm a private individual selling my private collection. ABE only allows me to set one postage rate so I charge the rate for hardbacks sent in a box with bubble wrap and polystyrene peanuts. Where postage is less - eg a paperback or small hardback - I refund the difference once I get my receipts and know the exact cost. Tracking is NOT provided automatically on UK parcels - you have to choose priority mail AND pay an additional �7 postage on top.
