FIRST HAWKINS EDITION 1760. 8vo, approximately 175 x 110 mm, 7 x 4½ inches, slightly trimmed copy, 15 full page engraved plates including portrait of Charles Cotton, 2 plates of music and 3 plates of fishing tackle, 17 small copper engravings of fish in the text, plus 1 extra woodcut illustration of an early angler, 1 engraved headpiece, pages: lvi, xxii, 1-303, [1], xlviii, iv, ii, iv, 1-128, plus 8 pages of index, bound in full black morocco, gilt lettering and decoration to spine, date at foot, gilt decoration to covers, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Slight rubbing to binding, a small closed tear to the top of the title page, neatly repaired, not near text, title page and the 3 plates of tackle slightly dusty, occasional pale foxing to text and margins of plates, the 8 pages of index foxed, heavy on last 2 leaves, a small old printed label of W. Ryland (11 engraved illustrations are by William W. Ryland) pasted on first blank endpaper with previous owner's pencil notes below, otherwise a very good copy. See: Rodolphe L.
