The state supreme court held: "The loss of the votes in one of the four districts into which the Sixth war was divided, did not defeat the election in that ward. If the votes of the First district are to be considered as wholly out of the question, in consequence of the riotous proceedings which drove the Inspectors from the room where they were canvassing, the result of the election must then be determined from the votes of the three remaining districts.".
