Neatly extracted from a bound volume and expertly mended. Since the Convention Parliament of 1688 had been summoned by William (as the Prince of Orange prior to his becoming king) and not by the sitting monarch in the conventional way, it was argued that the legislation it generated was invalid. This Act was deemed necessary to confirm the legitimacy of King William III and Queen Mary II and their accession to the throne of England, and to confirm the validity of the Acts passed by the Convention Parliament (including the Bill of Rights).
