A very scarce work detailing the military campaign of the Battle of the Pyrenees, written by English army officer and artist Robert Batty. The first edition of this very scarce work.Illustrated with a folding map.This work chronicles the military conflict that took place in the Western Pyrenees, also known as the Battle of the Pyrenees, part of the Peninsular and Napoleonic Wars. The author, Captain Robert Batty, made notes of every occurence that took place from his first moment of jointing the Left Wing of the Peninsular Army. As an Ensign in the Third Battalion of the First Foot Guards, Batty wrote notes about the individual events within the conflicts, as well as military surveys of the countries and 'sketches of the most remarkable scenery'.Collated, bound without the frontispiece and all twenty-four plates.Half-title is present.Two pages of adverts to the rear. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart, with only a few light marks to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the extremities. Spine is a little faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with a few scattered spots and handling marks. One large closed tear to folding map, with a few smaller tears to edges that have been repaired with tape to front of map. Bound without the frontispiece and plates. Good.
