Beschreibung
True first edition of this collection from Pablo Neruda, published in Cuba when Neruda visited the country in celebration of the Communist revolution. Consisting mainly of poems about struggle and revolution in the Caribbean - particularly Cuba and Puerto Rico, the book was printed in an edition of 25,000 and was the first book, Neruda would boast, dedicated by any poet in any country to the Cuban revolution. In 1966 a group of Cuban artists and intellectuals would pen an open letter denouncing Neruda; the book was never reprinted there, and few copies have surfaced on the market since. 5.5" x 8.5" hardcover book in laminated boards, 76pp. Covers front and rear with moderate offset toning and rubbing. Final 3 leaves slightly torn at upper/lower edges, not affecting text. Page interiors otherwise bright and crisp. From the collection of a tobacco smoker with attendant tanning to covers and a very slight aroma of smoke within. Uncommon. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers ABE-1691787372867
