VERY RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book. "Cassell's Magazine Illustrated 1901" By various Contributors & Illustrators. Believed to be First Edition, published by Cassell and Company, Limited, 1901. Thick & heavy item. PLEASE NOTE: As this book is heavy (over 3.2 Kg with packaging), if you are buying this from outside the U.K. please expect additional shipping costs. 4to, 25.5 cm x 19.5 cm x 6.8 cm, Burgundy cloth-covered boards, Gilt embossed lettering on spine, All edges dyed red, no dust-jacket. 667 pages. Weight: approx. 3 Kg (3000 Grams). CONTENTS ARE LIKE NEW!!! However there are several cracks forming between pages throughout, especially at rear of book. Much outer wear & tear: Spine & cover are marked, discoloured in places, grubby round edges, some bumps, scratches, indents & scuffing. Spine bumped & frayed either end, gilt dull. Corners are bumped & frayed with boards exposed & worn away there. Pastedowns & endpapers slightly marked. Some pages (very few) have light handling creases, and/or tiny edge tears/nicks/bumps, and/or corner folds. Small sticker on 1st pastedown. Ink annotations on 1st endpaper. Pages 14, 15, 16, 17 & 66 have some damage alongside spine in margin. Page 257 has 2 large folds. Small tear at head of spine area of p. 513. Last page is slightly damaged, but fully legible. Last endpaper has creases. Light age tanning & occasional foxing throughout. VERY RARE ITEM, BEAUTIFUL INSIDE!!!
