1902. [The Census of Ireland, 1901 - Area, Houses, and Population: Also the Ages, Civil or Conjugal Condition, Occupations, Birthplaces, Religion, and Education of the People. Province of Leinster. City of Dublin.] Taken in 1901, the report presents the population and land as it stood at that point. The census is more detailed than any prior. The land, its size and valuation, and the amount of people living on it, is broken down by Parishes, Electoral Divisions, Wards, and Poor Law Unions. The Wards for Dublin City are Arran Quay, Clontarf, Drumcondra, Fitzwilliam, Glasnevin, Inns Quay, Mansion House and Merchants Quay. Similarly to the three previous censuses we are shown figures for hospitals, gaols and workhouses, ages of husbands and wives in relation to each other, people's occupations, army and police figures, numbers of foreigners, numbers of disabled, levels of trade, religious affiliations, education standards reached, literacy levels, levels of Irish and English, and figures for emigration. All of these categories are broken down in detail, and compared with figures from previous censuses. This is the first of the modern censuses to deal with Dublin City individually. Such attention allows for a unique snapshot of urban life at the turn of the century. Disbound, housed in protective file. First edition copy. . . . Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers BP0128093
