A very good copy of the rare first edition. Binding is decorative cloth. Very neat owner's inscription to front free endpaper in elegant contemporary hand (dated 1874), with a note below in ink: "The above was written by my father," with a date-stamp above of Mar 29 1929. Elegant doodle to the verso of the half-title page, else the text is unmarked, pristine. Binding is solid, if with a slant due to wear and age. Partial cracking of the rear endpapers in the gutter, but the webbing is intact and there is no wobble to the board. Wear at the extremities of the green cloth boards, with some fraying at the base and crown of the spine. The gilt devices and lettering are remarkably bright in appearance.
