A scarce limited edition of this pictorial topographical work on London, with illustrations by Joseph Pennell. A large paper copy, scare limited edition of one hundred copies, of which the present is number eighteen. Exploring London landmarks between Charing Cross and St. Paul's Cathedral. With descriptive and historical notes by Justin McCarthy and twelve full page plates and further vignettes in text by Joseph Pennell, prolific American lithographer and illustrator known for his interest in landmarks and industrial scenes around the world. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's quarter morocco binding over cloth covered boards. Externally generally sound with shelf wear, chipping and bumping to extremities of the boards, loss to head and tail of spine. Leather spine is rubbed and lightly scuffed, boards somewhat marked and soiled. Previous ownership inscription to limitation page dated 1892. Internally, binding is tender, frontispiece held by protective tissue guard which is partially detached may come loose with further handling; split to few leaves, held by five cords only.
