Beschreibung
A brightly illustrated, limited edition work containing an extensive biography on Charles II, written by Osmund Airy. Limited edition, of three hundred copies printed on Japanese paper. Bound in the publisher's original chemise, with the paper wraps and housed in the original slipcase.Written by Osmund Airy, an English historian specialising in early modern Britain and Ireland, particularly Charles II and the Restoration period. He explores the life and kingdom of Charles II in this extensive volume. Known as the "Merry Monarch", Charles II was King of Scotland from 1646 to 1651, and also of England and Ireland from 1660 Restoration until his death. His reign was characterised by his ability to guide his country through the religious unrest between Anglicans, Catholics, and dissenters. With fifty illustrations, including a frontispiece in colour. Collated, complete. With an additional forty-three plates in duplicate, included in an additional portfolio to the rear of the work. Bound in the publisher's original chemise, with the paper wraps and housed in the original slipcase. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to joints causing paper to lift slightly. Paper wraps are slightly discoloured, with marking and a few spots. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with scattered spots to the fore edge. Some pages remain unopened. Slipcase is a little worn, with light marking and rubbing to joints. A tear along the rear joint of the slipcase. Very Good Indeed. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 926Q8
