The publication is a first American edition of physician and anesthesiologist Arthur Ernest Sansom's study of chloroform. This is edition follows the edition originally published in Britain in 1865. The book acts as guide and handbook, as to the use of chloroform in a medical setting, its chemistry as well as the history of its discovery. Illustrations include some tables, charts and illustrated figures, as microcosmic visualizations of the effects of chloroform on human physiology. Binding with light bumping and rubbing to the extremities. Interior with some minor sporadic spotting throughout and a small closed tear along the bottom edge of p.32. Book block tight. Binding in very good-, interior in very good condition overall. Scarce. Arthur Ernest Sansom FRCP (13 May 1838, Corsham â " 10 March 1907, Bournemouth) was an English physician, known for his pioneering research on anesthesiology, the use of carbolic acid in medicine, and diagnosis of heart disease.
