Beschreibung
In French. This is a very rare book. This volume, the fourth volume, is part of a four-volume set. I didn't see any volumes of this set for sale anywhere on the Internet. I've seen one two volume set covering four parts. 'Fin du Quatrième et Dernier Volume' (End of Fourth and Last Volume) is on the last page of this volume. I believe it is the First Edition. 1846 is on the title page. There is no other date. The first chapter begins at XXVIII. The last chapter is XXXVI. There are 388 pages. You can see the covers in the photos provided. The spine looks terrific, just a little bit of rubbing at the top edge. The gilt lettering is very bright. The bands are strong. It's a half-binding with a leather spine. 1846 is at the bottom of the spine. You can see the marbled patterns of the front and rear. There is a small loss just off the middle edge of the front cover near to the bottom edge. There is a bit of scuffing at the front top edge as well. All four corners have rub-through. All the edges have lighter bits of rubbing with some color loss. The book is nicely square. The spine is straight. Both covers are nicely and tightly bound. All of the pages are nicely and tightly bound. No binding issues anywhere. The pages have spotting/foxing. On some there's a lot and on others there's a little. I'll provide a photograph of one that's in the middle of those descriptions. There's a water stain coming up off the bottom edge shaped like a half-moon. It lightens as you move through the pages, also get smaller, particularly over the last 150?200 pages. At no point does it touch any of the print. There's very little, if any creasing on the pages. There are no markings or stampings. There are no attachments. No one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The inside covers and end papers are a marbled purple, blue and white, some other colors as well. They all look pretty good, but there is a small scuff the top edge of the first front end paper. It looks like a little sticker might've been removed. That covers condition. 'Georges Touchard-Lafosse was born in La Chartre-sur-le-Loire in 1780 and died in Paris in 1847. He was a French journalist, publisher and antique dealer. His collection of illustrated works on the provinces of France foreshadows modern travel guides. He was the former War Commissioner under the First Empire. He became a journalist during the Restoration and wrote for the liberal press. He put together a large volume of historical anecdotes drawn from various dictionaries from the 18th century. He was notably the author of the Chronicles of the Bull's Eye and a History of the surroundings of Paris , which has been regularly reissued up to the present time.'.
