"The essays are printed in the phonetic alphabet invented by Mr. Robert Bridges, in type designed and cut by Mr. Stanley Morison and the London Monotype Corporation"; inserted in vol. [vi] is a printed single-sheet invitation to readers, not unanimously taken up, to object to future use of the alphabet. The author died in 1930, before the publication of vol.
