A smart collection of five first edition detective novels from Michael Innes. Five volumes. First edition. Written by Michael Innes, the pseudonym of John Innes Mackintosh Stewart, a Scottish novelist and academic known for his literary criticism and contemporary novels. This set includes: Christmas at Candleshoe, 1953. When an American multi-millionaire attempts to buy an Elizabethan manor, she comes up against fierce opposition from a young boy and his band of bowmen who are prepared to defend the manor. Old Hall, New Hall, 1956. Biographer Colin Clout has been approached to write an account of one of the ancestors of Sir John Jory, of New Hall, but he soon gets caught up in a frenzied treasure hunt as rival interests and rival claimants probe the past. An Awkward Lie, 1971. When Sir John Appleby's son, Bobby, finds a dead man in a bunker on a golf course, he notices something rather strange: one of the man's fingers is missing. Appleby's Answer, 1973. Priscilla Pringle is an author of detective novels and is pleased to find that she is sharing a railway compartment with a gentleman who happens to be reading one of her books. But will this cheer last for long? Lord Mullion's Secret, 1981. At Mullion Castle, we meet the Earl and his family. When the Earl commissions an old school chum, Charles Honeybath, to paint a portrait of his wife, the artist soon finds himself at the helm of a complex investigation.
