Light rubbing and a fewminor scratches and stains to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, hinges partially cracked, bookseller ticket (of Sumner Whitney), early owner signature (of D.H. Cowden, dated 1878) and later owner stamp (of Park Chamberlain) to front pastedown, brief owner inscription (shelf location) to front free endpaper. Moderate toning to interior, negligible faint dampstaining to margins, mostly at foot of text block, offsetting to preliminaries and final few leaves. $350. * First edition. Weeks describes this book as "an attempt to systematize and condense the materials which constitute the law relative to the Mineral lands of the United States, from the date of the first Mining Act, 1866, to the present time"(v). This appears to have been a well-received work. Later editions were issued in 1880 and 1900. The first edition is rare.
