The script formerly belonged to John Stanier, a camera operator on the film. It is housed in an ancient, battered and water-stained ring binder, without cover sheet. The pages are numbered up to 141, but actually total 146, as there are additional pages numbered: 9A, 64A, 64B, 85A and 113A. Stanier's name is on the front of the folder and also written in ink to the top corner of page 85. The script is complete but looks to have been part of an ongoing editing process during filming, as it is made up of mixed sheets of different colours, some dated, and with no chronological order. The dates noted from earliest to latest are as follows: 1.8.78; 18.9.78; 19.9.78 and the latest 9.10.78. Filming began on September 16th 1978, so many of the sheets show creative changes made during filming. There are a few minor edits, page 63 has sections crossed through and a note "ANIMATION", most of page 64 is crossed through, the lower third of page 62 has been ripped off, also the lower half of page 84. These latter probably representing drastic edits rather than damage, but in terms of damage page 141 is lacking its lower corner, there are tears around the punch holes, some reinforced though all are holding, the pages are slightly toned and marked to varying degrees, some are creased, and those towards the rear are showing signs of exposure to moisture, unsurprisingly given the appearance of the outer boards. Loosely inserted is a black and white 8" by 10" photograph of the cast and crew, this is slightly toned, creased and curled, and would seem to have been a souvenir for each participant rather than having been intended for press or promotional purposes. Included in the script are the deleted scenes, famously the discussion of the sheep at the start, and the controversial character of Otto. Although uniform scripts of specified date appear on the market occasionally, a complete working script made up of different edits almost certainly represents a unique composite and merits further study.
