Quarterbound brown leather with dark brown cloth surface. ; gilt tiles on spine. It appears that this was a blank book purchased by the author who then fashioned his own book as a gift. The title on the spine comes from the author. The book has edge and corner wear, especially along the spine edges. Overall it is holding up well with no tears or parting in the binding. ; B&W Illustrations; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 330 +Index pages; This is a handmade book, prepared by Rev. Charles Melancthon Jones one time Pastor of Berkeley (CA) First Baptist Church for his friend David Allen Pitt, who had become the Pastor at Berkeley First Baptist. The book has a handwritten Introduction from Jones, many articles that Jones has clipped and carefully placed on interiro pages, typescripts by Jones, copies of photograhs, church bulletins and other such memorabilia. All of this has been pasted to the pages in a neat and orderly fashion. Jones was a well -known pastor of the times and had had a friendship with Bayard Taylor. This was a time when male friendships were often deep and abiding. This book appears to be something of an act of love from Jones to Pitt .
