Yankton, Dakota Territory, octavo, 263 p. ***CONTENT: This volume documents the proceedings, bills, and actions of the Legislative Council of Dakota Territory before the region was subdivided into North and South Dakota in 1887. The two Dakotas became states in 1889. Contents herein include financial matters, construction of bridges and roads, county affairs and boundaries, judicial matters, crime and punishment, regulations for agriculture, manufacturing and mining operations, construction, operation and regulation of railroads, establishment of mail routes, education, militia matters, Indian affairs (their "civilization" and removal), and much more. An Appendix contains the Governor's message on the "condition of public affairs in the Territory", a most informative document, especially regarding Native Americans. ***CONDITION: This is a complete, VG+ copy, bound in contemporary (likely original) half pebbled cloth and paper-covered blue boards. The covers are clean and well preserved; wear is confined to the extremities and two spots on the backstrip where labels were removed. Backstrip sunned. The backstrip bears a period, printed-paper spine label. Joints and hinges solid, binding very firm. The text pages are pristine: fresh, clean, and bright. No foxing or stains. Evidence of previous ownership includes a stamp of the "Territorial Library Dakota" on the front board and an old blindstamp on the title page. This is a sound, attractive copy of a scarce Dakota Territory document. Allen 83. International shipping will be extra, but only at my cost. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers OG5557
