From a 3/30/1958 New York Times review: "It seems characteristic of Richard Dohrman's vexing but rather extraordinary book that it lets over 100 pages pass before telling the reader the significance of its title: Baron Samedi, symbolized by a bowler hat and morning coat, is a powerful voodoo spirit, the Chief of the Legion of the Dead." This novel is set in Haiti during the US occupation of the 1920's and describes an American Marine's experience when encountering a voodoo culture. This copy is near fine in black cloth with purple and white titles and designs on the spine and front cover. Slight bumping at the spine ends and very slight age toning of the text.
