Two octavo volumes. Pp. 360 + [22]ff.; 360 + [22]ff. First editions, dated 1882 and 1884. Two novels in which fox hunting plays a part, each illustrated with 22 color plates and numerous drawings. Elim d'Avigdor (1841-1895) an avid rider to hounds, was educated in London as an engineer, built railways in the Near East, then wrote novels and owned newspapers (The Examiner, The Yachting Gazette). He was also an early Zionist, active in several Jewish organizations. Both volumes in half-red morocco, gilt, with six compartments and gilt hunting vignettes to spine, by Root & Son.
