Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book brings into focus the impact of Dante's, arguably the father of the Italian language, Divine Comedy on the literary history of English verse. Beginning with Chaucer, the author examines the influence of Dante's themes, ideas, and literary devices on major English poets across different centuries. The author includes the direct mention of Dante in English literature, the imitation of certain stylistic elements, literal translation and adaptation of passages, the repetition of themes, metaphors, and imagery, and the impact of Dante's moral teachings on the lives and work of English poets. The author shows that the depth of Dante's influence on English poetry is not only literary but also spiritual and philosophical, with later poets like Milton being powerfully shaped by his visionary journey through hell, purgatory, and paradise. The book concludes that Dante's Divine Comedy stands as a pivotal text in the development of English poetry, offering profound insights into the nature of sin, redemption, and the human condition. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
