Beschreibung
folio account ledger nicely bound in half dark brown leather with black pebbled cloth covered boards with black leather title on front cover saying DAY BOOK. ELGA STEWART. Contents begin Nov. 19, 1900 with statements written in a clear hand about the distribution of property of Emma Battell Stewart into 3 parts with one part going to Elga Stewart. That amount was $115307.08 The next couple of pages list various stocks and bonds in the inheritance. This all may have been written by Elga as personal pronouns such as my, and me are used in places. The last entry is on page 113 (of 200 in the book) and it is dated April 18, 1916. This last entry covers a few pages and has a statement that it is an accounting of all the personal property of Elga Stewart and totals ca. $236112. The statement says that it was done under legal supervision of courts of Dutchess County, NY. The listings include hundreds of statements of bills paid as well as income received. There are one or two other mentions of inheritances. One name that appears frequently is Dr. C. F. MacDonald who must have treated Elga for many years. This is most likely Carlos Frederick MacDonald (1845 - 1926) who was a well known psychiatrist and, apparently, was involved in the improvement of, if not the invention of the electric chair among many other things. Elga Stewart (1863 - 1916?) was the daughter of John W. Stewart and Emma Battell. According to DAR entry 15970 She had a couple of ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary war. Fascinating reading for a one of a kind item to gain insights into the lives of well to do people of the time. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 7260
