A very good first edition in original cloth backed pictorial boards. 4to (8 3/4 x 11"). [96]p. 1st edition, 2nd issue (Humpty Dumpty is not on back of dedication leaf). Edited and illustrated by Denslow, who later illustrated the Wonderful Wizard of Oz in a similar style. Each left hand page has the text of a nursery rhyme with the text hand lettered by Fred W. Goudy. Facing each rhyme is a fabulous color plate with bold colors printed on a green background. The text pages are also illustrated in color and there are pictorial endpapers as well. In addition to illustrating the book, Denslow also edited the text. This is an incredible picture book, one of Denslow's best and a beautiful copy, rare in this condition.
